Swim Report – March 5, 2010 – 36F and rising!

While the lake has not yet turned over, it’s definitely heating up. The longer days and increased levels of sunshine are slowly drawing Lake Michigan out of its long winter nap.

Dave and I got in a quick but very intense 1/2 mile late this morning. The chops were quite heavy, but we decided to give it a shot since the weather conditions were ideal. Believe it or not, all that sunshine makes a HUGE difference during the swim in helping you retain heat. If it had been overcast, I doubt we would have gone through with the swim.

  1. HOLY CATS…. FRIDAY WE SWAM IN 2 TO 3 FOOT CHOP IN BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINE SO WE DECIDED TO SWIM ON SATURDAY AGAIN…WELL I FROVE AROUND THE OAK ST CURVE AND CALLED STEVE TO CONFIRM IT WAS A GREAT DAY FOR A SWIM AGAIN WITH 2 TO 3 INCH WAVES ON THE WATER…
    WE SUITED UP IN THE LOT AND WALKED OVER TO LADDER #1 LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT SWIM…
    GUESS WHAT? IT WAS FROZEN OVER SOILD WITH 3 TO 4 INCHES OF ICE WITH NO OPENINGS AS FAR AS THE EYES COULD SEE … BOO HOO WE COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. I KEPT STEVE FROM CRYING HIS EYES OUT AN WE WALKED TO NORTH AVE BEACH AND LO AND BEHOLD THE BEACH AREA OUT TO JUST PAST THE STEEL WALL WAS NOT ONLY ICE FREE BUT MIRROR FLAT ! ! !. WE SWAM A MILE AND VENTURED OUT TO THE ICE A FEW TIMES FOR FUN AND ENJOYED THE WONDERFUL WARM SUNSHINE.
