Ma Nature gave us a 65F lake at 6:30am with the air coming in at 60F. But it was a crisp 52F just as I left home – so summer is most certainly behind us now. But we were fortunate enough to get a clear morning, much to the chagrin of the weather forecasters who were all calling for overcast skies. Bottom line, we got an amazing autumn sunrise for our first official fall meetup complemented by a warm but rather turbulent lake. So essentially the perfect balance between comfort and challenge!
I was planning to only do a short swim, but I felt pretty vigorous at the 1/4 mile point (I also think there was a slight southbound current). So I opted to do a beach landing at Oak Street Beach and walk back. The irony was that the swim itself was a breeze, but the walk back was unexpectedly treacherous with some very slick pavement conditions thanks to all the water crashing over the edge. But that was a small price to pay for yet another magnificent early autumn swim.
Wish you all could have been out there this morning!
