Swim Report – October 25, 2026 – Extended Indian Summer

Lake Michigan is on a mission to extend the summer as far out as possible! Quite unusual for this time of year, the water temperature came in at 60.5F (in-swim reading) with a comparable air temperature of 59F air. Plus we had a calm lake and another spectacular autumn sunrise – i.e. perfect swim conditions.

I did my usual 1/2 mile but decided mid-swim to make a beach landing and walk back as the sun had come out and the air temperature was much warmer than I had been expecting. Because of the later sunrise (7:10am), there were a lot of other people out at the lake taking in the scene or just enjoying the more temperate weather.

I would like to believe that this trend is going to continue into November, but I’m sure that Old Man Winter is lurking somewhere close and planning to make his appearance before long. So enjoy all this while you can (we certainly are)!
