Swim Report – October 16, 2011 – Lake Monster weather!

We never take the easy option if we can manage it…

The lake temp came in at ‎56F, which was quite balmy compared to the 50F air temp. No sunrise shots, unfortunately, since it was overcast and drizzly. I opted to go with my DeSoto top to take the edge off of the cold. As “luck” would have it, one of the seams developed a quarter-sized rip in it while I was putting it on (grrr!).

I think the quality control folks at DeSoto need to step up their efforts a bit…

But despite the inclement weather and the equipment glitches, we all managed to get in a great swim in almost pool-flat conditions. And as I write this, it looks like the weather is clearing up. So for once, you all get rewarded for sleeping in!

I didn’t SLEEP in…just waited a few hours and had the most beautiful 2 mile swim. One day, we will connect up. I am the chic who is a wuss and wears a full wet suit and neoprene cap. I did get out of the water after just shy of an hour and I could NOT talk. First time for everything I suppose. I sounded just like I had come from the dentist.
Until we see you again….I’m going now! Monday 4:15

Hey Jeri! Be sure to give us any new updates from your swim today. Danny said the lake is 62F. I’m jealous!

      HOLY CATS JERI – LOU….
A FULL 3MM WET SUIT AND YOUR FROZEN !
      1) DID YOU DRINK A LOT OF WATER THE DAY BEFORE AND THE DAY YOU SWAM ?
IT REALLY HELPS KEEP YOU WARMER .
      2) DID YOU EAT ?
TRYING TO SWIM ON AN EMPTY STOMACH MAKES IT HARD TO STAY WARM
      3) ARE YOU TAKING HOT SHOWERS, BATHS OR SITTING IN THE HOT TUB FOR HOURS?
TRY TO COOL DOWN THE SHOWER AND BATH WATER , YOUR BRAIN REMEMBERS THE LAST WATER YOU WERE IN.
      4) BUY A 5MM OR 7MM SCUBA DIVING HOOD
THEY WILL REALLY KEEP YOUR HEAD AND NECK WARM EVEN IN BELOW ZERO WEATHER.
      5) 5MM SCUBA DIVING BOOTS AND GLOVES ALSO HELP A LOT.
I CAN EASILY SWIM 3 MILES IN 40 DEGREE WATER WHEN SUITED UP.
      6) YOU WILL GET US TO SWIMMING IN THE COLDER WATER IF YOU KEEP AT IT.

the water was as flat as a swimming pool and it would have been nice if it was crystal clear but it was still a five star swim for the books. i was hoping for a larger showing because as the water temperature keeps dropping many more lake monsters will be hanging up their swim suits till next year and miss out on a lot of open water swimming. maybe you were worried about getting wet with the gentle rain this morning but we just swam fast and never got wet ! ha ha ha
