Swim Report – March 30, 2013 – Holy Saturday swim (a.k.a. Return to L1)!

An absolutely amazing sunrise was just making its appearance as I veered right onto the North Avenue exit. As fate would dictate, I had to wait for not one but two insanely long red lights. Surprisingly, my screaming at them did not make them turn green any faster (go figure).

I got into the NAB parking lot and sprinted out to L1 to get some shots of the dawn sky. Lucky for us, the swim area was almost ideal as well. There were some fragmented pieces of ice gathered along the edge of the wall, but the water was free and clear once you got a few feet away from the edge.

Nick and I got in at L1 and started working our way south. The lake temp came in at 37F, but the sunshine made it seem much warmer. Halfway to the beach, we decided to keep it at a half mile. Nick swam back while I opted to go to the beach and walk back. Fortunately, by the time I landed at Oak Street Beach, the sun was out in full force. So it was a pleasant 1/2 mile “victory walk” back to the parking lot.

All in all, it’s great to be back swimming at L1 again. That, to me, is the unofficial start of summer!
