Our first meetup of February gave us a 33F lake and an outside air temp of 31F – a huge bump from earlier in the week! The lake was fairly calm with just a slight swell, but a more agitated lake from the prior day had iced up L1 and the area leading to it. So I cleared the former with my pick axe, and we all did a herringbone step to make it to L1 without sliding down the incline into the drink!
I did my usual 1/4 mile before having to call it a day. The first 2 minutes were a bit of a challenge with a lake-induced ice cream headache. But that faded quickly after I acclimated, and I was able to finish the swim pretty comfortably. Happy February!
