Today’s morning forecast called for high winds and scattered showers, so we were greatly relieved when we arrived to find a sunny and calm lake!
After chatting for a bit with the 7:00am crew, I took the official water temperature. It came in at a blazing 65F – much warmer than the 49F air temperature. Since we had some heavy cloud action moving in from the west, we decided to get started right away.
The out-and-back to Oak Street Beach was quite easy thanks to the mirror flat water conditions. We lost the sun on the way to the beach, but we got it back for a short while on the return part of the swim. And the extra sunlight made a world of difference in the water!
As soon as we all got out of the lake, the wind picked up, and the clouds arrived in full force. We had a couple of breaks in the ceiling where the sun shone through. But when it finally closed up and started to drizzle around 8:30am, we called it a day.
So in the final analysis, we beat the clock and maxed out our summer swimming for the year!
