As I have noted multiple times over the years, October is one of the best months of the year for swimming. The lake is usually still fairly warm (i.e. 64.2F for this morning’s swim), with the more brisk air making entry into the lake all the more desirable. But the real magic comes from the “three Cs” – i.e. clarity, color, and contrast – which manifest themselves in the sunrises as well as the autumn colors this time of year. And this swim certainly checked all the boxes!
Despite the cooler air temperature (58F), I went with just jammers and a silicone swim cap and did a 1/2 mile point-to-point swim before walking back from Oak Street Beach. Luckily we had no wind and abundant sunshine – both of which took the edge off of the cold. And as you can see from the pics, it was a very photogenic morning.
Wish you all could have been out there with us!
