L1 was teeming with nature this morning, the highlight of which was a mesmerizing swarm of dragonflies that formed around us as we gathered out at the swim site. Really cool stuff!
Despite the early hour and the gusty wind predictions, we had a great turnout with several new swimmers earning their envy-inducing Lake Monster numbers. The forecasted 3-4 foot waves never really materialized. So other than a very slight swell, we had near perfect swimming conditions the entire time.
The big surprise, though, was the lake temperature. The official reading came in at 64.3F, with much colder layers lurking below the surface. This was quite a contrast from the 74F reading we had just a couple of weeks ago. But 64F is, at least in my opinion, an almost perfect temperature for lake swimming.
Wish you were out there with us!

Will you all be out either Sunday or Monday? I’m training w/my teammates (here in Indiana) for Aug 11 10K in Hell, MI and will want to get in some OW while I’m in Chicago! Looks great (and a bit cold) out there 🙂
Thank you,
