I caught a ride with Mike, and we met up with Dave at the Lincoln Park lot. We hustled over to L1 where Nick was already waiting for us.
The water temperature came in at 46F, and I opted to go with gloves and foot covers this time – and I’m glad I did! Despite the abundant (and fantastic) sunshine, the lake felt much colder than what I recall 46F feeling like last April.
Along with Mike, Dave, and Nick, we had Marlena, Andrew, and Danny getting in a swim that morning. Dave brought a couple of fresh pineapples which were the perfect accompaniment to our post-swim hot beverages. Too bad you missed out!

DUE TO THE RAPID CHANGING WEATHER MAKE SURE THAT STEVE HAS YOU CELL TELEPHONE NUMBER IN CASE OF A LAST MINUTE CHANGE OF SWIM AREA DUE TO WINDS AND THE LAKE FREEZING OVER OR IF THE SWIM IS CANCELED… THIS WAY WE CAN CALL YOU TO LET YOU KNOW. I ALSO THINK WE NEED AN RSVP SIGN UP IN ORDER TO KNOW WHO PLANS TO SWIM. TWO YEARS AGO I SWAM ON A FRIDAY IN 2 TO 3 FOOT CHOP AND ON SATURDAY MORNING I CALLED STEVE TO TELL HIM THE WATER WAS NEAR FLAT AS I DROVE PAST OAK ST BEACH .. I PICKED HIM UP AND 10 MINUTES LATER WE HIT LADDER #1 TO SEE IT WAS ACTUALLY FROZEN SOLID ! WE GOT LUCKY THAT NORTH AVE BEACH WAS ICE FREE SO WE SWAM THERE. WE ALSO SWIM AT MONTROSE AND 57TH STREET BEACH IN ORDER TO NOT PAY TO PARK.
I drove down LSD about 6:30-6:45 Saturday morning, and I was looking for you guys. Water looked smooth as glass and it was nice and sunny. I figured Steve had to be out there!
IF YOU NEED WET SUIT GEAR… LOOK INTO E-BAY , CRAIGS LIST AND YOUR LOCAL SCUBA DIVE STORE AND ASK IF THEY ARE SELLING THE USED RENTAL BOOTS,HOOD,GLOVES OR WET SUIT. I GOT USED GLOVES AND HOOD FOR DANNY ON THE CHEAP. MARLENA AND ENGLISH CHANNEL BOUGHT SOME SWEET 3MM WET SUITS VERY VERY CHEAP. THE FISH DO NOT CARE IF YOUR GEAR IS BRAND NEW WITH PRICE TAGS HANGING OFF THEM.
AS STEVE POSTED IT WAS A GREAT SWIM DAY WITH FLAT NO CURRENT WATER AND WARM SUNSHINE !
